An artist, mother, and activist born and raised in Springfield Massachusetts, and is currently based in Atlanta GA. With academic and professional roots in social work and criminal justice, her art is deeply informed by lived experience, and a commitment to social justice.
Ruby has been painting for over eight years. What began as a personal outlet for stress relief quickly evolved into a vital part of her life and primary form of self-expression. Her work blends emotional honesty with bold visual storytelling, using art as both healing practice and a tool for awareness and change.
She has extensive experience in community- based art, including teaching in an after-school enrichment program in Holyoke Massachusetts, and hosting over 20 themed paint and sip events designed to make art accessible and communal. in 2021, she participated in BLART a black art and activism exhibit in Springfield, ma. her work since then has been featured in a spectacular black girl art show and Art you for Recovery in Atlanta GA. Ruby is also a co artist of the Black Lives Matter mural in Springfield ma, a public work rooted in advocacy, remembrance and community voice. Her artistic excellence and social impact were recognized when she received the Creative Entrepreneurship Excellence & social impact award at the Massachusetts Black Excellence & Achievement Creatives luncheon, hosted by Springfield Creative City Collective.
Ruby Completed the Artist Development Fellowship led by Springfield cultural partnership and the community music school of Springfield and is a grant awardee of the Massachusetts Cultural council's Grants for creative individuals.
Stylistically, her earlier artwork focused on abstract imagery and Women- Centered themes addressing Feminism, sexuality, and body positivity. Her newest body of work, the art of recidivism, confronts mass incarceration and recidivism, using visual art to spark dialogue, challenge systems, and amplify often- silenced narratives.
Ruby Baldwin's work exists at the intersection of art, activism, and healing- rooted in community shaped by experience, and driven by purpose.
